cup54Today’s Scripture:

Read * Reflect * Respond * Rest (instructions for Lectio Divina)

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.
You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest,
as people exult when dividing plunder.
For the yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.
For all the boots of the tramping warriors and all the garments rolled in blood
shall be burned as fuel for the fire.
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His authority shall grow continually, and there shall be endless peace
for the throne of David and his kingdom.
He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness
from this time onward and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. ~ Isaiah 9:2-7 NRSV

Questions with your Cup – Advent Week 3: *re•fill /rē’fil/ (verb) to fill (a container) again

How is your cup providing for you today? How is God providing what you need this Advent?

Meditations:

Knowledge is only rumor until it lives in the bones. ~ Asaro Tribe

Christmas… is not an external event at all, but a piece of one’s home that one carries in one’s heart. ~ Freya Stark

Faith is salted and peppered through everything at Christmas. And I love at least one night by the Christmas tree to sing and feel the quiet holiness of that time that’s set apart to celebrate love, friendship, and God’s gift of the Christ child. ~ Amy Grant

Both Old and New Testaments describe our existence in relation go God as one of waiting… The condition of man’s relation to God is first of all not having, not knowing and not grasping. A religion in which this is forgotten, no matter how ecstatic or active or reasonable, replaces God by its own creation of another God. ~ Paul Tillich

Prayer: *pray for this process of filling and refilling.

For the days when “seated, clothed, and in my right mind” are major accomplishments, Lord hear our prayer.
