Read * Reflect * Respond * Rest (instructions for Lectio Divina)

He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ~ Matthew 18:2-3 NRSV

Questions with your Cup – Advent Week 1: *re•form /re’fôrm/ (verb) to make changes in order to improve

Would a child enjoy your cup more than you are? Why?

What are some Advent experiences from your childhood that you might revisit? Do any of those “childish” moments inspire gratitude or action in you?

Christ never meant that we were to remain children in intelligence: on the contrary. He told us to be not only ‘as harmless as doves’, but also ‘as wise as serpents’’. He wants a child’s heart, but a grown-up’s head. ~ C.S. Lewis

Praying was easy when we were children. No embarrassment, no formulas, no clichés and religiously correct God words; we just prayed whatever words came to our minds. One of my favorite children’s prayers is:

               Dear Jesus,

I want to thank you for going up there on the Cross for us every Good Fridays.

You must be real happy when the weekend is over.

               Thanks, Anita (age 11)

Little children don’t have a large vocabulary… of words, but their vocabulary outside of words is massive. It’s not limited to but includes hugs, winks, tears, squeezes, laughter, screaming, jumping, hopping, skipping, dancing, and silence. When you and I decide to be childlike, let’s remember the vocabulary of children. ~ Mike Yaconelli (1942-2003)

When you are hugging your child, always be the last one to let go. You never know how long they need it. ~ Author Unknown

Discipline is helping a child solve a problem. Punishment is making a child suffer for having a problem. To raise problem solvers, focus on solutions not retribution. ~ L.R. Knost #icallthisgrace #thankyouGodforgrace

Prayer: *pray for this process of forming and re-forming.

For those who write junk on public bathroom walls (because my child is rocking the Hooked on Phonics and now I have to justify “some things aren’t worth sounding out” Ugh!), Lord hear our prayer.

P.S. Email me a picture of your cup and you might see your cup up here soon! (Get them to me quick! Come on just turn your phone to the side and take a picture of your cup. I really can’t wait to see them)
